Jester Awards! NEW

Congratulations to Hannah Chegwidden, the ONLY student performer from all of Wichita (public or private) to whom MTW bestowed a Jester. She won for her outstanding portrayal of Little Sally in the musical Urinetown.

Second City Coming to East Theatre!


On March 7, 2014, Chicago’s legendary comedy theatre, The Second City presents Happily Ever Laughter, a hilarious revue at Wichita High School East’s new Theatre, 2301 East Douglas, Wichita, Kansas, 7:30 P.M. featuring some of the best sketches, songs and improvisation from The Second City’s fifty three year history.

Drawing on classic material from The Second City archives as well as scenes ripped from the morning headlines, The Second City’s Happily Ever Laughter is your chance to see an evening of smart, cutting edge comedy.

The Second City continues to deliver the leading voices in comedy while touring the globe. With scripted and improvisational elements, audiences always enjoy being part of the show and playing along with the next generation of comic legends. Many of comedy’s brightest stars have hit the road with The Second City Touring Company including Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Amy Poehler, Steve Carell, Bill Murray, Keegan Michael Key and most recently, current Saturday Night Live stars Cecily Strong, Tim Robinson, and Jason Sudeikis.

Thoroughly Modern Millie!
East's All-School musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie opens next Thursday, November 21, and runs through Saturday, November 23, with shows nightly at 7:30 P.M. Doors open at 6:45 and tickets are available at the door. Ticket prices are $10 adults, $7 students. Enter the theatre through door #25, located at the southwest corner of the building. Parking is available to the west and south of the theatre.

Florida Bound!
Tonight the school board approved East High's Theatre/Orchestra trip to Orlando over spring break. The orchestra will be participating in workshops and playing at Disney Village. The theatre crew will go behind the scenes and learn more about creating productions. And, of course, both groups will have fun: 5 days at Disney (including Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Disney Studios), 2 days at Universal Studios (Islands of Adventure, Harry Potter World), 1 day at a water park (Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach) and more!

Cost of the trip will be about $900 (which includes all transportation, admissions, workshops, lodging, and breakfasts at hotels).

Space is LIMITED!

SENIORS: You can sign up right now! Bring a down payment of $300 to Crawford (orchestra) or Gronewold (theatre). Checks to East High, credit cards- see Paula the bookkeeper.

Juniors: You can sign up on Monday, Sept 17.
Sophomores: You can sign up on Wednesday, Sept 19.
Freshmen: You can sign up on Monday, Sept. 24.

Those on the NOB list with a star by their name should plan on attending a dance audition Wednesday, Sep 5, after school in the theatre. A full cast rehearsal will be held on Thursday, Sep 6, in the choir room.

A few schedule changes
There have been a few changes made to the season calendar. Call-backs for the district musical are now on Friday, August 31. Stars has been moved back to May 17 & 18 due to graduation being incredibly early (May 10).

A New Year Starts!
Summer is nearly over and an exciting new year is about to begin! Please note that the upcoming year's dates have been added to the Season Calendar.

The new theater is nearly complete! Tours will be given at the start of school. A community night is in the works. Theatre alumni are welcome to stop by after school for a look (or call Mr. G to make arrangements.)

Auditions for the East Musical will probably be the second week of school. Auditions for the District Musical will be August 28 (for East students) with call-backs on August 30. More info to come.
